Baphuon ANGKOR

Baphuon (la tour de bronze) est un temple majeur du site Angkor. Il fut construit par le roi Udayâdityavarman II en 1060.

One of the largest and oldest temples in the Angkor complex in Cambodia is reopening to the public after spending decades in pieces. A team of French archaeologists has managed to fit together part of the 11th- century Baphuon temple, which was dismantled nearly 50 years ago. About 300,000 stones of the temple were left strewn across a huge expanse of jungle. The original project was abandoned as civil war engulfed Cambodia in the early 1970s. Tourists are expected to be able to visit part of the eastern face of the temple for the first time. (AFP)
